Accomplishments

  • Established a condo board Best Practices Committee – sharing info to save millions, increase accountability of the trades and leverage our collective buying/negotiating power.

  • Worked with BIA to create and distribute over 8000 "Welcome Bags" to all condos in the neighbourhood.

  • Got parking removed from the south side of East Liberty St. - vastly improving traffic flow and safety for pedestrians and cars alike.

  • Lobbied for and got a commitment from the City and Metrolinx to have a traffic signal at Strachan and East Liberty. In addition, we got this up and running fully 18 months ahead of schedule.

  • Connected with over 10,953 Facebook members.

  • Organized the, now annual, "Liberate Your Locker" Event coming into its 7th Year.

  • Organized and got sponsorship for the 18 "Movie Night in Liberty Village Park" events which have attracted more than 8000 residents over 6 years. This event now occurs three times every summer.

  • Is now sitting at the table with municipal, provincial and federal representatives.

  • It is being requested at city planning meetings, parks development meetings and is part of the consultation process for updated AGCO rules.

  • Is being requested for Developer meetings (Lifetime, Diamond and Schmitt).

  • Persuaded Metrolinx to provide a rush hour traffic police officer for the duration of construction on Strachan.

  • Installation of the Art Benches in Liberty Village Park.

  • Had its first AGM and elected a board of 7 Directors representing 7 different condo buildings in LV and has now added 12 more building representatives.

  • Has connected with over 32 other Neighbourhood/Resident/Ratepayer associations in the city.

  • Has had its voice heard regarding immediate electrification of the rail corridor and advocated for a Liberty Village Stop on the Georgetown Line with that possibility now being engineered into future condo plans.

  • Advocated for the new streetcars now implemented on King St. West.

  • Participated in the beautification of the Art Wall along the Strachan retaining wall.

  • Has incorporated as a not-for-profit.

  • Has more than 120 spin offs - the Liberty Village Dog Association and a team in the David Suzuki Homegrown National Park Project as well as many others. Members continue to create new groups using the LVRA Facebook portal.

  • Is working with GO/TTC/Mike Layton/Joe Cressy’s office to create an integrated ticket that will allow you to hop on the GO train in the mornings in LV (every 1/2 hour starting soon) and then move into the TTC system if you want - for cheaper than the current $5 cost! 4 mins to Union.

  • Advocated for and now has a firm commitment and money set aside for the Pedestrian Bridge to be completed by the end of 2019.

  • Work with residents to deal with the increasing problem of off leash pets and pet cleanup, advocated for the installation of the dog run on Western Battery.

  • Created: Liberty Village Scavenger Hunt, Single de Mayo Fundraiser, Symphonies in the Park and planning new events every year.

  • Sponsorship with Beanfield Metro Connect and Charitable Partners with MLSE Launchpad
